Seen — You are the God who sees me, Genesis 16:13

“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’”
— Genesis 16:13

There is a special kind of tired that comes from serving people who never notice the serving.

You show up early. You stay late. You pray for people who don’t know you’re praying. You carry burdens that were never announced from a pulpit — and some days you wonder if anyone sees any of it.

Hagar knew that feeling. She wasn’t in a palace; she was in a wilderness, alone and overlooked. And it was there — not in the place of honor, but in the place of hurt — that she discovered the name of God she needed most: El Roi, the God who sees me.

Can I tell you something? Heaven keeps better records than people do. Every quiet act of obedience, every tear cried in secret, every time you served with a wounded heart and showed up anyway — it was seen. Not by everyone. But by the One whose seeing matters most.

You are not invisible. You are not forgotten. You are seen by a God who never looks away.

🤲 A Prayer

Lord, when I feel unseen by people, remind me that I am fully seen by You. Heal the places in me that are tired of being overlooked, and let Your gaze be enough. Amen.

✎️ Journal Prompt

Where in your life do you most need to remember that God sees you? Write it down — and write Genesis 16:13 beside it.

If this encouraged you, share it with someone who serves quietly. And if you’re not on the list yet, subscribe — a new word comes every Monday.
